Jesus, our lawyer!?
Naa this one's got me excited!!
Jesus! My lawyer?
So, I was reading the book of Job for personal reasons...
Sike! Nothing about sharing hotspots for spiritual growth should be personal!
I was reading Job so I could learn to trust God and know He's in control.
While reading, I got to these verses in chapter 9.
“...if only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together. The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment. Then I could speak to him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength"
Job 9:33-35
After I read these verses, the Holy Spirit said to me: Jesus!!! He was/is that mediator Job needed and we have! Oh how awesome the Grace and Love of God for us is!
You may ask, how do I know Jesus is the mediator? well... In 1John 2:1-2 he (John) says...
'my dear childern, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin but if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world'
Another one? Let's have it. John 14: 6
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
So, Jesus said Himself, that HE is the way and no one can come to God except through HIM. (This should be enough to debunk all them 'there are others ways to God' talks).
Jesus didn't say I am 'a' way, He said 'I am THE way'. I digress.
Imagine a court setting with a Judge and an accused standing trial. Who speaks for the accused? The lawyer. Not because the accused can't speak for himself but he's not adequately equipped to speak to the Judge and the failure rate of his plea will be astronomically high if he tried to. The lawyer on the other hand, knows how to navigate complicated laws with precision because he knows the law and his position as a lawyer grants him access and audience to the judge
That's what Jesus does, because of His sacrifice on the cross, He is given authority to speak on our behalf; because of Jesus, we can confidently go to God. Just like a guy will be eager to go to court because he has a very good lawyer that can advocate for him, we also can eagerly go to God because of Jesus and His sacrifice for us.
It's because of Jesus that we can speak with God without fear because we come to God covered in Jesus' righteousness. 2 Corinthians 5:21 'for He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him'. Jesus has paved the way for us to know God.
Analyzing Job's statement:
1. 'If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together'
Christ is that mediator. 1John 2:1-2 says '...we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous'
2. 'The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment'
Guess who took God's punishment of our sins upon himself? You know the name... Jesus Christ!
Isiah 53:4-6 says
'surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.'
We don't need to sacrifice lambs anymore because of Jesus: we have grace because of Him, we can fall down and still get back up without fear of punishment because Jesus died for you and I.
3. 'Then I could speak to him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength'
Job saw his inadequacy. He showed that by saying 'i cannot do that in my own strength'
It is not because you are good, kind, loving or righteous: it is beause Jesus was. Truth is, we cannot be good loving or righteous: not the way God wants us to; His standard is perfection and the only person that attained it was Jesus.
God honors the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf. So when we come to God by vitrue of our faith in Jesus, He (Jesus) will be our mediator and then we can be able to speak to God without fear.
Jesus has done all the work for us so we can go to God: we truly have no excuse. He has also saved us from the penalty of sin and given us access to the Father: He wants to be your mediator, will you let Him?
Faith in Jesus gives us God's righteousness and there's nothing we can do to add or take away from it.
Romans 3:22 AMP
'this righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ for all those [Jew or Gentile] who believe [and trust in Him and acknowledge Him as God’s Son]. There is no distinction'
This changes a lot in my mind. Thank you!
